DEMOGRAPHY OF RANCHI CITY

An official Census 2011 detail of Ranchi, a district of Jharkhand has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Jharkhand. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Ranchi District of Jharkhand.

In 2011, Ranchi had population of 2,914,253 of which male and female were 1,494,937 and 1,419,316 respectively. In 2001 census, Ranchi had a population of 2,350,612 of which males were 1,218,830 and remaining 1,131,782 were females. Ranchi District population constituted 8.83 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Ranchi District was at 8.72 percent of Maharashtra population.

There was change of 23.98 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Ranchi District recorded increase of 28.58 percent to its population compared to 1991.

DISTRICT DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that density of Ranchi district for 2011 is 572 people per sq. km. In 2001, Ranchi district density was at 449 people per sq. km. Ranchi district administers 5,097 square kilometers of areas.

LITERACY RATE

Average literacy rate of Ranchi in 2011 were 76.06 compared to 66.71 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 84.26 and 67.44 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 78.18 and 54.27 in Ranchi District. Total literate in Ranchi District were 1,911,433 of which male and female were 1,085,244 and 826,189 respectively. In 2001, Ranchi District had 1,308,516 in its district.

SEX RATIO

With regards to Sex Ratio in Ranchi, it stood at 949 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 929. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 938 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 960 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data.

CHILD POPULATION

 

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Ranchi. There were total 401,214 children under age of 0-6 against 389,107 of 2001 census. Of total 401,214 male and female were 207,029 and 194,185 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 938 compared to 960 of census 2001. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 13.77 percent of Ranchi District compared to 16.55 percent of 2001. There was net change of -2.78 percent in this compared to previous census of India.
