Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC)
provides a wide range of services to the city. It includes the supply of
drinking water, sewerage and drainage, solid waste management, roads
maintenance, street lighting and slum development works. Ranchi, the capital of
Jharkhand, is situated in Chhotanagpur plateau at an attitude of 654.5 m above
sea level. Ranchi is well known for its scenic water falls, salubrious climate,
barren rocks and verdant hillocks. A panoramic view of the city can be taken
from Ranchi hill and Tagore hill. It is connected by regular Indian Airlines
services with Patna, Mumbai and New Delhi. It is also connected to major cities
by rail. Ranchi is the district as well as divisional headquarter and now the
capital of newly created state Jharkhand, located at 23o23' north latitude and
85o23' east longitude. The general climate of Ranchi is pleasant with average
annual temperature of around 24oC. The average annual rainfall as recorded is
around 126 cm. From old days Ranchi is well recognized centre of tourist
attraction. Like many of such urban agglomeration physical development of
Ranchi took place mostly by choice and need and not as per any controlled
development plan. Ranchi Municipal Corporation was established on 15-09-1979 by
merging erstwhile Ranchi Municipality, Doranda Municipality and Ranchi Doranda
joint water board. It is the 2nd Municipal Corporation of erstwhile Bihar.The
first election of Corporation was held in 1986. The elected was superceded on
13-10-91, thereafter the election of corporation was not held.
